Sydney North Planning Panel

Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking to appoint qualified and interested community members to join the Sydney North Planning Panel (SNPP). The current SNPP is made up of five members, three appointed by the State Government and two appointed by Ku-ring-gai Council.  Council is seeking expressions of interest for two candidates to be the alternates of the current Council members. Please note these are paid positions; more information about remuneration is available on the NSW Planning Panels website.

The principal function of the SNPP is to determine regionally significant development applications and undertake rezoning reviews.  Regional development has a capital investment value of more than $20 million and also includes certain other development categories over $5 million.  Legislation governing planning panels is set out in a number of separate areas such as the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 that provides for the constitution and functions of planning panels and obligations in respect to councils. 

Selection criteria

The State Government has stipulated at least one Council nominee is to have expertise in one of the following areas:

  • Planning
  • Land economics
  • Architecture
  • Traffic and transport
  • Heritage
  • Law
  • The environment
  • Engineering
  • Tourism
  • Urban design

Nominations should take the form of a covering letter outlining your suitability for membership of the panel, as well as a current resume.
