Ku-ring-gai Council is reviewing how it involves community members in planning and decision-making. This will involve updating our community consultation policy and practices to support delivery of best practice community engagement.
The Ku-ring-gai community is highly engaged with local issues. For many years Council has sought to capitalise on our community’s passion and love for the local area by delivering a range of community consultation and engagement projects to help inform Council projects and decisions.
We understand that that our community is changing so we need to adapt our consultation and engagement approach to meet these shifting needs.
Our community is diverse and has a range of needs and expectations and every Council project is different too. The new policy and approach to community engagement needs to consider this. In particular, we must acknowledge that many people have busy lives and limited capacity to get involved. Council must work hard to reach out in a way that makes it easier for everyone to have his or her say.
This is why it is important to hear from our community. We need to understand how and why people get involved - or not. We want to know about barriers to participation and how we can do better to ensure our community can get involved if they choose, in a time and place that works for them.
