Recycle your second fridge for Earth Hour 2017

Earth Hour 2017 is on Saturday 25 March at 8.30pm. All Ku-ring-gai residents are encouraged to switch off their lights for an hour during this symbolic international event.

However, we want to go beyond the hour by further encouraging Ku-ring-gai residents to switch off and recycle any second (or third!) fridges or upright freezers that you have chewing through the power in your home.

Many second fridges are old, inefficient, rarely used and are located in areas of the home that are prone to high heat (such as garages) which makes them guzzle more power to stay cool.

Fridge Buyback’s professional removalists can collect and recycle your working second fridge or upright freezer that is at least 200 litres in capacity. For most residents, the collection is free. A fee only applies if the property has more than 20 steps. For collections involving six stairs or less, Fridge Buyback will pay YOU $25!

By switching off your second fridge or upright freezer, you can cut your electricity use by about 10% and save about $300 a year on your electricity bill.

Our target: switch off 100 fridges across Ku-ring-gai for Earth Hour

This Earth Hour our goal is to have 100 second fridges collected by Fridge Buyback for recycling. In terms of energy saving, this is the same as switching off ten Ku-ring-gai homes – for good!

Ku-ring-gai is already the best-performing council in NSW for switching off and recycling second fridges and upright freezers. More than 3,250 fridges have been collected since 2006. However, with an estimated 11,500 second fridges running in the Ku-ring-gai area, we can still do more.
