Council is upgrading the playground at Irish Town Grove in Turramurra.
We consulted the community about the park back in August 2018 seeking feedback from park/playground users and the wider community about what we should consider in the upgrade to make a great playspace to be enjoyed now and into the future.
Using the extensive community feedback collected, we developed a concept plan and sought feedback up until 20 February 2019. Whilst feedback from the plan was largely positive there were a number of objections received to the relocation of the play space from its current location adjacent to Princes Lane further into the reserve. Using feedback received we amended the concept and developed revision B (pdf. 4MB).
Our goal for the upgrade is to create an attractive, engaging and inclusive community place for everyone to enjoy. It will be a place to meet, play, relax and exercise that enhances the local neighbourhood and growing residential community.
The concept plan for this local park includes:
- A playground catering for a range of age groups and abilities.
- Open areas of lawn for relaxing and sitting.
- A number of seats, a shelter and picnic table.
- A drinking fountain.
- An accessible path network to link the park’s activity areas.
- Rubber softfall.
- A path/scooter track.
About the playground
This playspace is categorised as a local playground. Local playgrounds generally cater for residents within walking distance and are not designed to attract users from much further afield.
They are the most common category of playgrounds within the Council and usually do not include facilities such as toilets as they are intended for shorter stays.

Please note that the final plan may change as the project progresses through the detailed design and construction process.
