Public Hearing – Proposed Reclassification of Land at 1275 Pacific Highway, Turramurra (Turramurra Village Park)

About the project

In accordance with the provisions of Section 29(1) of the Local Government Act 1993 and Section 57(6) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, a Public Hearing is to be held in relation to the proposal to reclassify Council land at 1275 Pacific Highway, Turramurra (Turramurra Village Park) from ‘community’ land to ‘operational’. The site forms part of the Turramurra Community Hub, where Council has prepared a masterplan to guide the future development of the precinct.

The hearing is open to the public and will be held on Wednesday 26 October 2016 from 5pm at Council Chambers, Level 3, 818 Pacific Highway Gordon.  An Independent Chairperson has been appointed to conduct the Public Hearing.

  • It is important to note that Council:
  • Has no power to sell, exchange or otherwise dispose of community land.
  • May grant a lease or licence of community land, but only in accordance with the Local Government Act.
  • May grant any other estate in community land to the extent permitted by the Local Government Act or under the provisions of another Act.
  • May sell, exchange or otherwise dispose of operational land.

Note

This Public Hearing is only considering the reclassification of 1275 Pacific Highway, Turramurra (Turramurra Village Park).

The Planning Proposal that forms part of the exhibition documentation includes the proposal for the rezoning and reclassification of three sites - 5 Ray Street, 12 William Street and 1275 Pacific Highway. This Planning Proposal was publically exhibited between 29 April – 27 May 2016.

On 28 June 2016 after considering a report on the outcomes of the public exhibition of the draft Turramurra Community Hub Masterplan, Council resolved that all action cease on the reclassification and rezoning of 1275 Pacific Highway, Turramurra (Turramurra Village Park) until a decision was made on the location of the library and community facilities within the precinct.

A Public Hearing into the reclassification of 5 Ray Street and 12 William Street, Turramurra was held on 25 July 2016. Council resolved on 20 September 2016 that the location for the library and community facilities within the precinct is to be within the Turramurra Town Square site and accordingly the process into the reclassification and rezoning of 1275 Pacific Highway, Turramurra (Turramurra Village Park) can now continue.

Public hearing report

A Public Hearing on the reclassification of 1275 Pacific Highway, Turramurra was held on Wednesday 26 October from 5pm at Ku-ring-gai Council Chambers, Level 3, 818 Pacific Highway Gordon and was open to the public.
