The Art Centre offers classes for all levels of experience and ability. Our classes are held in light, airy studios providing a stimulating atmosphere in which to work. Exploring techniques

When: Monday
Time: 9am - 12pm
Fee: $275 per nine-week term

Learn new techniques and mediums in a relaxed atmosphere. Try watercolour and gouache on various surfaces such as vellum, ivorine and black paper. Develop your pencil drawing skills, gilding techniques and much more. Some drawing skills required.

Exploring drawing in a contemporary way (with a little bit of paint)

When: Monday
Time: 9am - 12pm

This experimental drawing course examines works from well-known twentieth century and contemporary artists. Experiment with observation, composition, colour, form, mark-making and mood, while developing your own unique style. You will have new artworks and a journal full of ideas and notes to nurture future projects.

Explore drawing techniques and the basic principles of drawing, line, tone, perspective and composition. Learn right brain drawing and how to see with an artist’s eye. Students will be encouraged to develop their own

The joy of painting amd mixed drawing - New class!

This class will cover design elements and principles, colour theory, composition, tone and basic perspective. We’ll also explore techniques, materials and subject matter during the course and some art history. The overall emphasis is about enjoying the experience of creating art. All levels welcome.

Open studio - new class!

Open studio is for students of all levels. Work on your own projects in any medium with expert guidance. Beginners will be introduced to traditional painting methods, while more experienced students will further develop their painting style. Interested students will be given a project to research and develop.

Towards abstraction

This is a class for those who want to take their art into abstraction, with a process of learning and experimenting with tools, mediums, methods and techniques - this includes making handmade brushes and tools. Each week students look at different artists via video and images, and their approach to abstraction - inquiring into styles and expressions helping to understand our own visual language. Connecting with emotion, taking risks, trust and intuition are integral to creating abstract art. Integrating drawing throughout and extending into mixed media. Enjoy the process and the result whilst increasing your understanding of colour, shape, design, texture, value and line. All welcome - some prior experience in drawing and painting is helpful.

In this class there is a focus on observation through drawing and is extended using different mediums like charcoal, pencil, crayons, ink, acrylic, paper and canvas, collage and mixed media. By looking at different artists each week, individual styles are explored. Encompassing traditional methods to experimental processes, through to abstraction. Encouraging enjoyment in the process of creating whilst learning about colour, value, line, shape, form, design and composition. Suits all levels of drawing experience.
