Playtime in the bush!

Join our experienced rangers for fun mornings of play-based investigation and discovery.

During each session we explore a different bush theme and incorporate storytelling, craft, creature encounters, stroller-friendly bushwalks and sometimes even gardening!

Fairtrade tea and coffee is available for the grownups.

Toddlers and Tadpoles runs on Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am-11.30am during term time at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden.

Bookings are now open for Term 4, 2019.

Cost

Casual fees for Toddlers & Tadpoles are $14 child, $9 adult, with babes in arms free.

Please pay the rangers on arrival by cash (exact change) or card (Visa or MasterCard) prior to the activity.

Full-term fees are $126 child, $81 adult (you get a free week) and must be booked online.

Little Bush Chefs

25 & 26 September

Today we’ll be testing our culinary skills and enjoying a picnic in a beautiful bushland setting.

We’re Going on a Bug Hunt

2 October

What a beautiful day for a bug hunt! Join us for a swishy-swashy adventure to look for all kinds of bugs in all kinds of places in the bush.

A Very Hungry Caterpillar

9 October

Meet a real-life hero of the popular children’s book. They may not actually eat cherry pie and salami, but caterpillars have a delightful story that will capture the imagination of every child.

The Best Beak 

16 & 17 October

The birds have all been squabbling about who has the best beak! Meet a feathered friend with a quacky beak and join a contest to try different “beaks” for all kinds of challenges. Who will be the winner?

Springtime at the Pond 

23 & 24 October

There’s lots to explore in the pond at this time of year. Let’s get the dipnets out and see what we can find under the water!

Time of the Eel 

30 Oct & 31 October

At this time of year, local aboriginal children would look for the Parra'dowee (short-finned eels) making their way down the creeks to the coast.

Bluey the Bluetongue 

6 & 7 November

Sometimes we see bluetongue lizards in our backyards. Today we’ll be having a close encounter with Bluey, our very own bluetongue.

Recycling Week 

13 & 14 November

Let’s get involved in Recycling Week! We’ll be reusing things we’d usually throw away by making a Box Robot or a pot plant!

Keeping Chickens 

20 & 21 November

With a cluck-cluck here and a cluck-cluck there…we’ll meet some friendly chickens and learn how to look after them at home.

Possum Magic 

27 & 28 November

Join Hush and Grandma Poss as they practice their Bush Magic on an adventure through the Australian bush. Bring your apron to help make some very special Vegemite sandwiches.

Animal Rescue

4 & 5 December

What would you do if you found a lost baby bird or an injured possum joey? Learn how to be an Animal Rescuer with the rangers at the Wildflower Garden.

Stick Man

11 & 12 December

“Stick Man lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three”. Come and meet our Stick Family and join us for a Christmas Adventure!

Christmas in the Bush 

18 & 19 Dec

The cicadas are calling, the reptiles are roaming – it’s Christmas time in the bush! We’ll be decorating wrapping paper and making special gifts to take home.

Important information

  • Unless otherwise stated, the meeting point for our activities is Caley's Pavilion at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden, 420 Mona Vale Road, St Ives. Please follow signs on arrival.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult. One adult may supervise up to three children.
  • All children attending must be within the age range for the activity. This excludes small babies which may accompany a parent free of charge.
  • Most of our activities involve a bush walk on an unpaved track - wear appropriate walking shoes and bring a raincoat if wet!
  • Most Wildflower Garden activities will go ahead in wet weather. If extreme weather conditions force the cancellation of the activity, participants will be notified by the ranger.
  • We do not refund if you cancel your booking. Refunds are only available if the Wildflower Garden cancels the activity.
  • All activities within the Wildflower Garden have been risk assessed.
