We run a range of fun and interesting seminars and events for seniors throughout the year. An exciting program of seminars, classes and excursions are planned for 2019.

Please note unless otherwise specified, bookings are essential for all our events.

Seminars

Dementia-friendly communities & Dementia risk-reduction strategies

Come along and learn about the latest research into ways to reduce your risk of dementia, and how we can create a dementia-friendly community including “D-caf” cafés, where groups of carers and their loved ones spend a morning socialising and enjoying activities together. This is a free seminar.

Excursions

Nepean Paddle Wheeler cruise and lunch

Join us for a relaxing cruise on the Nepean River in the Penrith area on the Nepean Paddle Wheeler. The Captain’s entertaining commentary is rich in local history, and a delicious two course lunch will be served on board.

When: Wednesday 1 May, 9.30am - 3.30pm

Meet: Carpark behind Marian Street Theatre, Killara. 

Cost: $75 includes cruise, lunch and transport.

Tour of Dobell House and lunch at Wangi Wangi RSL

After a special morning tea of home-made cakes, guests receive a presentation about Dobell, his life, his art and the history of the House and a guided tour of the House and Studio.

We will then go to the Wangi Wangi RSL for lunch overlooking beautiful Lake Macquarie.

When: Monday 3 June, 9am - 3.30pm

Meet: Carpark behind Marian Street Theatre, Killara. 

Cost: $50 includes transport, entry morning tea and guided tour.

Lunch at Doyles Restaurant at Watsons Bay

Join us for a lovely day out at the famous Doyles Restaurant at Watsons Bay. We will be served their signature fish and chips, dessert of the day, tea and coffee, and take a scenic drive around this pretty area after lunch.

When: Thursday 20 June, 11.30am - 3.30pm

Meet: Carpark behind Marian Street Theatre, Killara. 

Cost:  $70 includes lunch and transport.

Activities and classes

Qi Gong classes Gordon

Qi Gong draws on ideas of Taoism that develop harmony through gentle flowing movements, deep breathing and calm mental focus. The aim is to achieve relaxation, fitness, balance and increased vitality.

When: Wednesdays 1 May to 19 June, 9.30am to 10.30am

Where: Gordon Library, Meeting Room 1 in the Old School Building 

Cost: 8 week series - $90 per person

Functional Fitness Lindfield Seniors Centre

This program addresses health and fitness concerns, and is particularly relevant to the less active mature adult. Focus areas include falls prevention, strength and mobility training, balance and coordination.

When: Mondays 29 April to 1 July (no classes on Public Holiday Monday 10 June), 1.45pm - 2.45pm

Where:  Lindfield Seniors Centre, 259 Pacific Highway, Lindfield

Cost: 9 week series - $99

Back to Basics North Turramurra

This program addresses health and fitness concerns, and is particularly relevant to the less active mature adult. Focus areas include falls prevention, strength and mobility training, balance and coordination.

Please note: This class is for those with back issues. You must be sufficiently mobile and physically able to do the exercises on the floor. 

When: Tuesdays 30 April to 2 July, 10am - 11am

Where: Church of Christ, Community Hall, Bobbin Head Road, North Turramurra

Cost: 10 week series - $110
