Junior Ranger Apprentices

An opportunity for older children to experience a day in the life of a ranger. High school age students are invited for a work-experience style adventure where you’ll get involved with a variety of ranger tasks. Help plan and run an activity program for little kids, feed and handle captive native animals, and contribute to outdoor projects in our organic garden or fauna enclosures. Two places are available each day so you can bring a friend.

Age: 12-16 years

Cost: $32 supervision fee

Summer in the Great Outdoors

Join us for a fabulous day of outdoor fun in the bush. You’ll need all your ingenuity, creativity and sense of adventure today. Try your own nature art and rock painting, join some outdoor games, and explore unknown places deep in the bush. Bring your swimming things or a change of clothes for some wet and wild challenges if the weather’s hot!

Natural Christmas Decorations workshop

Christmas in the bush is a special time. The cicadas are buzzing, the birds are singing, and the reptiles are roving. We’ll be collecting nature art materials and making beautiful decorations for Christmas trees or gifts.

Nippers on Holiday – Getting Hot!

Nippers in Nature, our Bush Preschool, continues during the holidays with one-off sessions to celebrate what’s great about summer. Let’s find out how animals keep cool when it’s hot in the bush!

Bushcraft & Camping

Join us for a special day-camping experience. We’ll pitch our own tents in our special Bush Campground, and enjoy a day of adventures and challenges to learn outdoor skills such as compass-work and BBQ cooking.
Please advise of any dietary requirements or allergies when booking. Participants will still need to bring their own food for the day.

Splish Splash!

Summer’s here and we love to get wet! We’ll be exploring some of the Wildflower Garden’s creeks and ponds, and meeting some of the splashy creatures that live there. Bring a towel and a change of clothes for some water play if it’s hot.

Busy Butterflies

This is a great time of year for insects of all kinds. We’ll be meeting some six-legged creatures up close before trying our hands at sweep netting and other ways to catch butterflies in the bush. We’ll even make our own special butterfly craft to take home.

BBQ & Mueller Track by night

Join us for a sausage and salad before we head out on a never-before adventure along the Mueller Track in the dark, guided by an experienced ranger. Loads of wildlife possibilities and nocturnal secrets to be revealed. Please wear sturdy footwear and bring a torch and water bottle.
Please note that this is a strenuous hike and will finish quite late at night, so it will not be suitable for children under 12 years of age.

Nippers on Holiday – Getting Wet!

Nippers in Nature, our Bush Preschool, continues during the holidays with one-off sessions to celebrate what’s great about summer. Join us for some wet and muddy fun to cool off with a slip’n’slide, mud pit and some animals who just love the water!

A whole day in the bush to spend with animals – searching for clues that will help us find creatures out in the wild, and close encounters with some of our favourite reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Sharpen your bush detective skills and learn loads of animal facts!

Bush Survival Skills

We love being out in the bush, but would you know what to do when something goes wrong? We’ll be learning important survival skills such as bush first aid, how to find fresh water, and constructing an emergency shelter.

Bush Music Melodies

The birds are calling, the frogs are croaking, the cicadas are buzzing – it’s noisy out here! Join the Bush Chorus as we listen for songs and music in the bush, and make plenty of our own.

The Incy-Wincy Spider

They have eight legs and lots of eyes, spin silky webs to catch their dinner, and there are thousands of different kinds of them. Join us to learn all about these fascinating and talented creatures, meet a couple up close, and have a go at spinning a web yourself!

Are you good at looking for clues and finding hidden things? In the bush, you’ll find all sorts of clues if you take the time to notice them. Train your observation skills, visit hidden places, and learn loads of nature facts with our experienced rangers out in the wild.

Big Aussie Bush Day

We’ve got a true-blue celebration planned for the last day of the holidays! It’ll be chockers with Aussie bush fun. We’ll fling some snags on the barbie for lunch, have a thong-throwing contest, fry our brains with some Aussie Trivia, meet some native animals, and maybe even run under the sprinkler if it’s hot. Bonza!

Important information

The meeting point for our activities is at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden, 420 Mona Vale Road, St Ives. Please follow signs on your arrival.

  • Children five years and under or with special needs must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All children attending must be within the age range for the activity. This excludes small babies which may accompany a parent free of charge.
  • Most of our activities involve a bush walk on an unpaved track – wear appropriate walking shoes and bring a raincoat if wet!
  • Most Wildflower Garden daytime activities will go ahead in wet weather.  If extreme weather conditions force the cancellation of the activity, participants will be notified by the ranger.
  • All activities within the Wildflower Garden have been risk assessed.
