A Moment in Their Life photo competition opens for 12-21 year olds

A photo competition aimed at bringing the generations together is offering cash and other prizes.

The competition asks entrants to take a photo portrait of an older person in the community that describes ‘a moment in their life’.

The portrait should aim to tell the audience something meaningful about the older person’s life and how they spend their day.

Entries close on Monday 26 March. Entrants or their subjects must be residents of Ku-ring-gai and photographers must be aged between 12 and 21 years.

A selection of photographs will be exhibited at St Ives Shopping Village between 9 and 20 April and winners announced at the exhibition launch on 11 April. A ‘People’s Choice’ award will also be announced after the exhibition, at which visitors will have the chance to vote for their favourite portrait.

First prize is $500 cash for the winning entry, with gift vouchers between $100 and $50 also on offer for second and third prize winners and the People’s Choice winner.

Mayor Jennifer Anderson said the photo competition was part of the Council’s Seniors Festival which comprised a month of events aimed at celebrating older residents and their role in the community.

The competition is also being held as part of Youth Week, which falls between 13 and 22 April 2018.

“A Moment in Their Life is a great way to give young people real insight into the lives of older people,” she said.
