Food and culture on show at St Ives on 22 June

Published on 12 June 2018

St Ives Community Hall will showcase the best of food, performance and culture to mark Refugee Week in 2018.

Refugee Week aims to raise awareness about the issues affecting refugees and celebrates their positive contribution to Australian society.

The Community Hall at Memorial Avenue St Ives will host a cultural banquet, entertainment, market stalls and stories for the local community to show its support.

Along with the Rotary Club of Wahroonga and the Council, the event is being coordinated by St Francis Social Services, whose vision is to support those fleeing persecution and disadvantaged young people.

Proceeds from the evening will go towards their House of Welcome Women’s Creative Hub for women seeking asylum.

Young residents who attend Ku-ring-gai Council’s youth centres are also performing and volunteering at the event and will witness the stories of refugees who have come to Australia and the local area.

The event will take place on Friday 22 June between 6.30pm and 9.30pm; tickets cost $50 for adults; $30 for concession or $120 for a family of four.
