Outdoor area at Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden transformed

Published on 2 November 2018

The revamped area known as Bidwill’s Clearing can now host picnics, birthday parties and other small events.

The makeover was completed at the end of October and the Clearing is now open for bookings. Bidwill’s Clearing is located 200 metres from the main entrance in the Wildflower Garden at 420 Mona Vale Road St Ives.

The former picnicking area has been transformed with the addition of gated child-proof fencing, new picnic tables and seating and upgraded landscaping.

To make outdoor catering easier, the Clearing now has a gas BBQ, meal preparation area and a tap. The new picnic tables are also wheelchair friendly and pathways have been improved for better access.

A sandstone retaining wall can also be used for additional seating and refurbished garden beds have been planted out with local native plants sourced from the Wildflower Garden Nursery.

Mayor Jennifer Anderson said the upgraded Clearing was part of an extensive program of improvements at the Wildflower Garden aimed at attracting more visitors.

“The Wildflower Garden is hosting a wide range of events, as well as weddings at the Caley’s function centre.”

Bookings for small events such as children’s birthday parties at Bidwill’s Clearing can be made through the Wildflower Garden’s visitor centre on 02 9424 0353 or wfgarden@kmc.nsw.gov.au
