Council staff briefed around 100 residents on progress concerning the redevelopment of the western side of Lindfield centre.
The community meeting at the Council Chambers this week was held to explain progress on the Lindfield Village Hub.
The Hub project has a construction value estimated at $170 million and will be located at the Council-owned car park in Woodford Lane and surrounding streets on the western side of Lindfield centre.
When built, the Hub would be a mix of public facilities such as a library, community centre and meeting spaces, coupled with residential and retail areas.
General Manager John McKee, who spoke at this week’s meeting, said the sheer scale of the project required the Council to investigate a number of funding options.
“This is a very exciting project that many people in our community have been eagerly awaiting.”
“However, when dealing with a project of this complexity which is twice the size of Council’s annual budget, we need to take the necessary time to get it right and look for appropriate funding models and partners,” Mr McKee said.
“How the project is to be self-funded remains the crucial issue,” he added.
