Ku-ring-gai Community Garden

Ku-ring-gai Council is in the process of establishing a community garden at The Lookout Park at Turramurra.

The setting up and running of the garden will be done by the volunteer members who work in the garden and training will be provided if required.

What is a community garden?

A community garden is an area of shared land where people come together to cultivate fresh food, to learn, relax and to meet new friends.

Community gardens are seen to have many advantages including:

  • the promotion of a healthy lifestyle
  • social benefits from the interaction of participants
  • environmental benefits due to the decrease in food transport miles and the reduction or reuse of waste material
  • motivation and development of skills which residents can apply in their own lives.

Interested in participating in the garden?

If you would like to participate in the garden either in the construction phase or when it is up and running, email Council's facilitator Julie Antill on jantill@kmc.nsw.gov.au  for the community garden to register your interest.  You will then receive updates on the progress of the garden and invitations to participate at various stages.  In the meantime, you may be interested in exploring some of the numerous web sites on community gardens.
